I love a good ocean movie and this could might maybe be the best! Based on a true story, I'd also really recommend the documentary from 1950. Great story, looks awesome, beautiful score.
Brutal and realistic medieval war scenes, political intrigue, and not one non-white character. Pacing is slow but many find that enjoyable and the payoff of truly amazing fight scenes you don’t see very often is satisfying
If you want a film about the Civil War that is profoundly historically accurate, respectful, intense, emotional, and introduces you to historical figures you've never seen before... this is it. Gods and Generals ought to be seen as a classic, better than even The Patriot with Mel Gibson. If you haven't heard of this film or haven't watched it yet, check it out. It's worth it
banger movie
This movie tells the action-packed true-story of Desmond Doss. He was a Christian that was anti-gun due to a personal interpretation of the Bible and emotional stress from past violent interactions. The movie is pro-military. Lots of Japs killed
A film that seems to emulate a remembrance or abbreviation of a working class childhood, where cultural influences, relationships, pressures and fears all mix together into a symphony like experience
I now seem to have a greater understanding of Eisenstein's Ivan duology of films with the new English translation as seen on Mosfilm's YouTube channel. Here in this hopefully short review that needs an introduction for some pretentious reason I will demonstrate things you did not hear about my love for Eisenstein, his infatuation for Disney and how both of them furthered my appreciation to a state...
Obviously one of the best movies ever
Before I start talking about the film itself, I want to first describe where I am coming from. The older I get, the more I appreciate history, class and education as tools to keep us grounded in reality. Without these three things, we are just consoomers. Drifting through life without a purpose. What makes a film like Amadeus so important is that it gives the average man the chance to digest something...
Good alien film, good visuals, terrifying
A pretty good older movie that was par the course for Charlton Heston. Rodrigo Diaz works his way into the favor of the then Spanish royal court. Befriending some of the captive moors he spared they give him the name EL Cid word of their defeat and working with the Christians angers the General Ben Yusuf of the Almoravid ruler who plans to invade and conquer Christian Europe starting in Spain. The...
I got into the Unabomber topic via the Manhunt series and read a couple of his writings so far. This movie is the most honest visual publication so far I am aware of. If you have read the Manifesto, this film is a good way to start your journey. The nature shots are magnificent, it doesn't get boring at all and it catches Teds motivations and emotions very well. One thing I have to criticize is a...
I wish I didn't know about Tom Hanks' weird tweets about clothing items on highways, and about Lionardo's preachy green energy tirades. Either way, I'm desensitized to sh*tlibs nowadays so I could enjoy this film thoroughly like I did the first time watching. Hopefully you can too. Good hetero bromance dynamic. Friendly feud, father/son + fraternal camaraderie
The ultimate blackpill documentary, with the worst ending possible
If you like "Whiplash" and films about obsessive dedication and sacrifice that aren't sportsball related, then you'll really enjoy this. Obviously there are creative liberties taken with the "based on a true story" bit, but you wouldn't want it any other way. Amazing screenplay that somehow adds foreshadowing, redemption, and the typical story arc while also answering all the common things brought...
Another great performance by Joaquin Phoenix. The movie does a good job of being serious and funny at the same time, usually in the very same scene. The character development is great and you care about the main character quickly in the movie. It is also a very 'real' feeling movie, it is how you would imagine a handicapped alcoholic's life to be. Because it was directed by Gus Van Sant, he can't...
Brilliant film about the religious biography of C.S. Lewis. Based on the autobiography of Lewis, the film uses a Lewis look-a-like to narrate the religious journey from a child in the English countryside to young man at Oxford. Starting with a brief introduction and ending with a touching monologue, the film is exceptionally written (taken from the words of the author himself) and compelling. Although...
This is the first time I ever truly understood the horror of aliens or the alien. Not as in the Ridley Scott or James Cameron movies, but as in why people were really afraid of UFO's and abductions. it was always cheesy 1950s flying saucer black and white sci fi before this or goofy Weekly World News tabloid fiction about Bubba getting anal probed in the cornfield next to his trailer. no, this...
One of the few movies I didn't feel like a pos paying for at the theater
After some anon went in detail about his son in a "Boy and the Heron" review, I went down a Google rabbit hole. I was only vaguely aware of their relationship and had no idea the extent of how much he's failed to live up to his dad's expectations. I feel bad for the guy. The CGI film looks like sh*t but if he doesn't try new things he'll always be compared to an animation god. And I guess the other...
