Trying to agree on a movie to watch with your loved ones can be annoying. We want to make it fun by allowing you to agree on some filters to narrow it down. (E.g. 80’s – 90’s, Fantasy, streaming on Netflix or HBO) And then you can take turns eliminating ones you really don’t want to watch. Until finally you’ve narrowed it down to one.
If you want to watch a Nicolas Cage movie but can’t decide which one, you can hit the shuffle button and find a random film of his. This can help you get out of the algorithm echochamber. Choose whatever filters you want and then click “shuffle” for a surprise.
Lastly, we want users to have curated lists based on their likes. We want to generate an algorithm that uses your own taste in movies combined with other users’ to suggest stuff you’d like. As well as a mixture of these websites’ similar lists:
Every site has a spider map of films for each movie title. We can aggregate them all into one big pool and movies that have multiple mentions would rank higher. We can do the same for movies with metadata matches like similar release date, genre, cast, demographics, keywords, plot themes, etc.
Then to take it to the next level we can curate a list based on every movie you rate highly on ZR. The more times an adjacent movie is added to your “similar” pool, the higher we can rank it for something you’d probably like. The more reviews you write, the better our recommendations will be.
