Always read the fine print. Billy Pelter (Zach Gilligan) has a pretty good life and nice parents who think they're giving him a nice present. The catch is the gift comes with cryptic warnings; do not expose it to light or water and, by all means, do not feed it after midnight. The 'it' here refers to an adorable furry little "mogwai," whose species makes the Jekyll and Hyde duality look tame by comparison. Billy flouts all the rules, and soon Christmas in this quaint small town is ruined because the once-cute mogwai, Gizmo, begins to multiply into evil Gremlins gone wild. Billy and his girlfriend Kate (Phoebe Cates -Fast Times at Ridgemont High) do their best to contain and control the damage while fending off opposition to their romance.
