Poor Blair Witch — she deserves a better movie

Running and screaming may be essential to a lot of horror movies, but as “Blair Witch” shows, they’re not scary in themselves. For that, you need the stuff between the running and screaming.

In the sequel “Blair Witch,” the younger brother (James Allen McCune) of the girl who disappeared at the end of 1999’s “The Blair Witch Project” goes into the Maryland woods with five others in search of the house where she was last seen, in images found later. This film, we’re told at the outset, was also put together from found footage.

The movie is essentially 40 minutes of low-impact foreboding followed by 40 minutes of this: “Aaaargh!”...
