Woke but fun
I can't remember the older film but I am familiar with the original story of Aladdin. I'd say the main change to the story is in the portrayal of the princess but other than that it's a standard retelling. This is set in the middle east but the portrayal with the cast is far more diverse than it needs to be. That being said this only affects the main characters in the casting of Will Smith as the genie. The highlight for me is the Prince Ali, Mighty is he song and the songs generally are entertaining. The directing and effects were all solid. This is probably as good as it is going to get with modern Disney films.
