Aftersun, 2022 - ★★★½

It's a very pretty and lowkey coming of age movie about a young girl spending a holiday with her dad. It makes great use of home video and I really liked the direction of some scenes - for example - there's a scene in which she is videoing her dad and we see the video playing on a crt monitor. She turns off the camera and we watch the scene through the reflection on the monitor screen.

Another scene takes place while we watch a polaroid develop, which I think is probably the most important shot of the film. That shot pretty much encapsulates the whole film. It's a slowly developing portrait of a relationship between a girl and her father who doesn't live with her.

The film is breezy and warm and feels like a memory. However, I don't get why people are saying this is a tearjerker. I never...
