I looked up the director/writer and he was a gay kid who went to religious schools. That makes the message more palatable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saved! Back in the 2000's there were a string of indie movies that championed the spiteful mutants. Their message is clichรฉ and rings hollow now. But if you can remember what it was like back then and how the cultural hegemon hadn't shifted completely to the SJW sh*tlib climate, then you might be able to enjoy the plot. The devout Christians are the antagonists and the spiteful mutants are the protagonists. That should come as no surprise. But there are plenty of multidimensional and heartwarming Christians who keep their faith throughout. In fact, the Jewish girl even prays as part of her character development and the gay guy still talk about Jesus loving them. The message was not simply an anti-religious one, but a reformist one, about practicing what you preach and being nuanced. Not bad.
