A pretty good older movie that was par the course for Charlton Heston. Rodrigo Diaz works his way into the favor of the then Spanish royal court. Befriending some of the  captive moors he spared they give him the name EL Cid word of their defeat and working with the Christians angers the General Ben Yusuf of the Almoravid ruler who plans to invade and conquer Christian Europe starting in Spain. The movie chronicles his employment and life fighting against the invading moors.
