Crimes of the Future, 2022 - ★★★

I don't know how I feel about this movie quite yet.

I generally liked it. The worldbuilding is cool and its meditations on art and its effects on ourselves and on politics and culture is thought-provoking, if often time on-the-nose.

The cinematography is beautiful and the retro-futuristic organic aesthetic plays nicely into the story. The characters live in a world of old buildings in ruin. The technological progress is internal, not external. As their bodies evolve, the world around them rots.

Lea Seydoux and Viggo Mortensen fit their characters very well and Kristen Stewart gives a very Kristen Stewart performance. I know that sounds weird, but you'll understand me when you see the film.
